CAIRO – 3 May 2025: A Palestinian infant starved to death in the Gaza Strip on Saturday due to the famine and dehydration in the besieged enclave, bringing the number of malnutrition victims in the Gaza Strip to 57 fatalities.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Saturday the girl Janan Saleh Al-Skafi died at Al-Rantisi Hospital, west of Gaza City, due to malnutrition resulting from the famine in the Strip.

The Ministry added that approximately 60,000 children are suffering from symptoms of malnutrition due to the Israeli occupation's tight siege on the Gaza Strip, its closure of all crossings, and its prevention of the entry of basic materials and humanitarian aid, including food, water, medicine, and even fuel, for about 64 days.

Gaza Strip hospitals have received 77 martyrs (including 7 recovered) and 275 injuries in the past 48 hours, the Ministry said in a separate news briefing on Saturday.

A number of victims remain under the rubble and on the roads, unable to be reached by ambulances and civil defense teams.

The death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 52,495 martyrs and 118,366 injuries since October 7, 2023.

On March 18, Israel shattered a two-month ceasefire in Gaza brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US, resuming one of the century’s bloodiest conflicts. The death toll and injuries since March 18, 2025 has reached (2,396 martyrs, 6,325 injuries).

“With two months of an aid blockade, we don’t need to see photos of emaciated children to know people are hungry, and that children are weak and malnourished, with life-long consequences,” said Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his X.

He called for a ceasefire in Gaza and for the release of Israeli hostages and for access of humanitarian aid into the strip.
