CAIRO – 24 April 2025: Antonio Tajani, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed Italy’s support to the Egyptian plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, which is supported by the Arab and Muslim worlds.

Tajani made the remarks as he met on Thursday with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, where they discussed the situation in Gaza and the Egyptian efforts to achieve ceasefire in the enclave, the Presidency said in a statement.

The meeting also highlighted Egypt’s endeavors to facilitate the exchange of captives and prisoners in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the Strip.

Moreover, the meeting confirmed Egypt’s rejection of the displacement of Palestinian people from their lands or the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.

The recognition of the Palestinian state within the two-state solution was also emphasized during the talks as the only way for permanent peace and stability in the region.

Regional Situation

Besides Gaza, the meeting addressed various developments across the region, including in Syria, Libya and Sudan as well as the security of navigation in Bab Al-Mandab Strait and progress of negotiations on Iranian nuclear file between Washington and Tehran.

During the meeting, Egypt underlined its commitment to the stability of these countries and the protection of their peoples' resources and unity.

Egypt also underlined the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means and the urgent pursuit of a ceasefire in Gaza.

Tajani praised Egypt's tremendous efforts to restore regional stability, stressing Italy’s commitment to ongoing coordination with Egypt in this regard.

Fostering Cooperation

Tajani conveyed to Sisi the greetings of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, stressing her keenness to enhance relations between the two countries.

The president emphasized the close Egyptian-Italian relations and the ties that unite their peoples.

The meeting addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields, as well as opportunities to develop partnerships in the areas of energy, food security, agriculture, and livestock.
