CAIRO – 26 July 2017: Secretary-General of Arab League (AL) Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted on Wednesday that Arab immigrants and refugees issue should be given priority on the international agenda especially in these exceptional conditions.

These remarks were made in the AL statement during a meeting between Abul Gheit and Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Laura Thompson.

Aboul Gheit said that armed conflicts in the Arab region led to large inflows of migrants and refugees from several Arab countries like Syria and Yemen.

He stressed that IOM as an international organization has to ensure that host countries comply with their obligations towards the Arab immigrants, noting that these immigrants are victims for human trafficking.
