CAIRO – 10 April 2025: French Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoyne confirmed on Thursday that French President Emmanuel Macron's three-day visit to Egypt was “extremely important”.
He explained that it included two main parts; the first related to bilateral relations between Egypt and France, and the second related to regional and international issues of common interest, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Lemoyne added that several agreements were signed during the visit, and the Egyptian-French Business Forum was held. The visit also discussed ways of joint cooperation in various fields, including culture and education. Therefore, it was a comprehensive visit to discuss all bilateral issues.
The French Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the visit was also an opportunity to discuss the plan presented by Arab countries for the Palestinian territories with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Earlier this week, France President Emmanuel Macron visited Egypt, held meetings with President Abel Fattah al Sisi and visited Al Arish city. Sisi and Macron also witnessed the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries.
A tripartite summit was also held in Cairo between President Sisi, Macron and King Abdullah of Jordan to discuss conditions in the region including the developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
During the visit, French President condemned, the targeting of humanitarian and relief teams in the Gaza Strip, and considered the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza a ‘top priority.’
Macron stressed that a political solution is the only way to achieve a settlement in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire in Gaza as a prelude to launching a political process.
on Wednesday, Macron said that France is planning to recognize a Palestinian state within months and could make the move at a UN conference in New York in June on settling the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
“We must move toward recognition, and we will do so in the coming months,” Macron told France 5 television. “Our aim is to chair this conference with Saudi Arabia in June, where we could finalize this movement of mutual recognition (of a Palestinian state) by several parties,” he added.
