Egypt's population stood at 107.2 million in January 2025, up from 104.4 million in January 2023, marking an average annual growth rate of 1.34 percent, compared to 1.4 percent in 2024 and 1.6 percent in 2023, the health minister said.
The decline in the population growth rate comes simultaneously with the improvement of the macro economic indicators, with the GDP recording a growth rate of 3.5 percent during the first three months of 2025, against 2.7 percent during the same period of the previous year, Abdel Ghaffar said.
Port Said governorate accounts for the lowest population growth rate during the first quarter of 2025 with a ratio of 0.61 percent, thanks to awareness campaigns successfully carried out in this coastal governorate.
Meanwhile, Cairo governorate has recorded a population growth of 0.86 percent during the first three months of 2025.
The remarkable retreat in the population growth is a testament to effective population policies carried out by the government to strike balance between the population growth and sustainable development, the health minister said.
