Photos: Egyptian naval forces foil drug smuggling attempt via Red Sea

CAIRO – 3 April 2025: The Egyptian naval forces successfully has foiled an attempt to smuggle quantities of narcotics within the southern fleet's jurisdiction amid their efforts to secure all the nation’s maritime costs, said the Armed Forces in a statement on Thursday.

Military spokesman Gharib Abdel Hafez said the Red Sea Naval Base received a report regarding a group of individuals attempting to carry out a drug smuggling operation by sea.

The base immediately dispatched a naval unit to address the situation.

After gunfire exchange, the naval unit managed to gain control of the vessel, arrest the smugglers, and seize large quantities of hashish, hydro, and various calibers of ammunition, the spokesman said.

The confiscated items were sent to the relevant authorities for legal action.
