Grand Mufti of the Republic and Chairman of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Authorities and Institutions Worldwide Dr. Nazir Ayyad
CAIRO - 22 March 2025: Grand Mufti of the Republic and Chairman of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Authorities and Institutions Worldwide Dr. Nazir Ayyad, condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack that targeted a mosque in the village of Fonbita in the rural municipality of Kokoro, Niger, killing 44 civilians and wounding 13 others as they were performing prayer.
The Grand Mufti affirmed that targeting places of worship and killing innocent people is a heinous crime that contravenes all divine laws and human norms.
He emphasized that terrorism has no religion and that extremist groups seek to spread chaos and destabilize societies, which requires international solidarity to decisively confront them.
He also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Niger, praying to God Almighty to have mercy on the victims and grant a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Mufti also reiterated his call for strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism, working to dry up its sources of funding, and raising awareness among societies about its dangers. He emphasized that Islam is innocent of all these crimes that distort its tolerant image.
He concluded his statement by praying that God protect the world from the evils of terrorism and that security and peace prevail among all peoples.
