President affirms commitment to Egyptian women’s empowerment, protection from violence

CAIRO – 22 March 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed the state’s dedication to empower women politically and economically, while protecting them from all forms of violence as he met with various Egyptian mothers on Saturday.

In his speech during the gathering, the president said the state will continue its efforts of ensuring that Egyptian women receive their rights in assuming leadership positions and senior jobs in both the public and private sectors.

“I affirm our strong commitment to enhancing the political participation of Egyptian women, who have been the main supporters of the nation in all electoral occasions and entitlements over the past years,” Sisi remarked.

Economically, the president said he directed the government to execute all projects and initiatives that grant true opportunities of economic empowerment for Egyptian women, including proper jobs.

To ensure social empowerment, Sisi reiterated full rejection of any violation or violence against women.

“I have instructed the government to confront all forms of violence against women and to provide a safe environment that protects their rights and ensures their safety.”

 

Sisi emphasized the state’s firm commitment to encouraging inspiring examples of Egyptian women in all scientific, cultural, and social fields to achieve further success and influence.

Meanwhile, the president highlighted the enormous regional and global challenges affecting the security and stability of nations, stating that the responsibility resting on Egypt amid these challenges has grown larger.

He saluted the Palestinian women amid the ongoing challenges.

“I cannot miss this opportunity to salute the resilient women and mothers of Palestine, steadfast in their rights and strong in defending their land and people.”

HONORING EGYPTIAN WOMEN

Sisi, along with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, met today with female ministers, who hold the portfolios of planning, economic development and international cooperation, environment, local development and social solidarity.

Head of the National Council for Women, female leaders and Egyptian women from various fields were also present.

The meeting sought to honor Egyptian women, coinciding with the nation’s celebrations on Mother’s Day.

“On a day that showcases the greatest forms of giving, where the suns of love and loyalty shine, we gather today to honor the great mothers of Egypt, symbols of sacrifice, resilience, and inspiration,” Sisi said during his speech.

“It is a day to express our appreciation for the Egyptian woman, who has long been the lifeblood of this nation and a true partner in building its glories.”

 

MESSAGES TO WOMEN

“I take this opportunity today to reiterate my gratitude to every Egyptian woman and girl who carries in her heart the concerns of this nation, contributing to its construction and enduring hardships for its sake.”

“To them, I say: the nation appreciates your role and what you have offered for its stability, dignity, and prosperity.”

“I assure you from this position that Egypt will remain committed to enhancing the status of women and providing support for them.”

“The Egyptian mother is not only the nurturer of her children; she is also the guardian of the nation’s identity and cultural heritage.”

“She is the beating heart that instills values of love, tolerance, and belonging in the souls of generations, raising a conscious generation capable of shouldering responsibility and facing challenges.”

“Egyptian women have carried this nation through good times and bad, confronting all challenges, aware that they are the backbone of families, the foundation of society, and the essence of life in our beloved homeland.”

“I have always said, and I continue to repeat: the Egyptian woman has been the cornerstone of building this enduring Egyptian civilization, which has lasted for thousands of years, with its pride and beauty, its sophistication and nobility.”

“Every step our Egyptian nation has taken since the dawn of history bears the imprint of the Egyptian woman—partnering in life, as a scholar, a writer, a doctor, a teacher, a mother, a wife, a sister, and a daughter.”

During the meeting, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy spotlighted the government's support to Egyptian women, particularly through social protection programs, including Takaful and Karama.

Morsy also highlighted the state’s efforts in increasing cash support for Egyptian families and women breadwinners, enhancing economic empowerment for women as part of Egypt's Vision 2030.

Head of the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW) Amal Ammar also underlined the council’s efforts to ensure social and political empowerment for women.

The meeting discussed various topics related to women, motherhood, and childhood, with talks on Alzheimer’s disease, the role of art and media in shaping Egyptian identity and public taste, and the role of women leaders in social work.
