FM Abdelatty discusses challenges facing Horn of Africa countries with EU Envoy

CAIRO – 18 March 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Tuesday from Annette Weber, the EU envoy to the Horn of Africa, to exchange views on the latest developments in the Horn of Africa.

Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's commitment to promoting peaceful solutions and settling regional conflicts through dialogue and joint cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to address the security challenges facing the countries of the region.

The Egyptian minister briefed the European official on Egypt's efforts and mediation to support stability in the Horn of Africa.

The minister of foreign affairs was keen to know the European envoy’s impressions of her recent visit to Port Sudan, emphasizing the specifics of the Egyptian position regarding the need to preserve the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan. He expressed his hope for calming the situation in Sudan and restoring security and stability.

Views were also exchanged on a number of security and political challenges facing the Horn of Africa. Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of supporting Somalia's stability and the need to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, affirming Egypt's commitment to continuing its efforts to support Somali state institutions.
