CAIRO – 12 March 2025: Ukraine has accepted a US proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire aimed at restoring peace following Russia’s invasion, according to a joint statement released after bilateral talks held in Saudi Arabia.

The ceasefire can be extended by mutual agreement and is contingent upon acceptance by Russia.

The discussions included plans to finalize a comprehensive agreement for the development of Ukraine’s critical mineral resources “as soon as possible.”

The minerals agreement aims at “developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand Ukraine’s economy and guarantee Ukraine’s long-term prosperity and security,” according to the statement.

The United States also agreed to immediately resume intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine.
