CAIRO – 8 March 2025: EgyptAir announced that it will cancel several flights between Cairo and German cities on Monday as German airports are bracing for a 24-hour strike called by trade union Verdi.
The national flag carrier announced canceling flights MS785/6 from Cairo to Frankfurt and back, MS787/8 from Cairo to Munich and back, and MS731/2 from Cairo to Berlin and back, all scheduled for Monday.
EgyptAir urged customers booked on these flights to review their reservations by contacting the EgyptAir call center for assistance.
Verdi has announced a 24-hour "warning strike" at major German airports on Monday following a breakdown in wage negotiations for public sector employees.
The German trade union demands a monthly increase of 8% in wages, or at least 350 euros ($380).
Airports affected by the strike include Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, Bremen, Duesseldorf, Dortmund, Hamburg, and Leipzig-Halle.
The association of Germany's airport operators, ADV, reported that the strike is expected to impact about 510,000 passengers with the cancellation of over 3,400 flights.
"Germany's air traffic will be largely shut down on Monday," the ADV stated, calling the strike a "horror scenario for affected passengers."
Frankfurt Airport has indicated that it is highly likely no flights will depart from the country's main hub. Travelers are advised to avoid coming to the airport and to check their flight status directly with their airlines.
