CAIRO – 7 March 2025: In a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, the US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff said that he was familiar with the Arab plan on Gaza, stressing that it includes attractive elements and reflects good intentions.

Witkoff expressed his welcome to learn more details about the plan during the coming period, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

The discussion took place during a phone call between Abdelatty and Witkoff, on Thursday, March 6. Over the phone call, Abdelatty reviewed the Egyptian-written Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, addressing its various elements and stages. Abdelatty also highlighted the full Arab consensus on the plan as reflected in the Arab Summit hosted by Cairo on March 4.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Egypt's aspiration to continue positive and constructive interaction with President Trump and the US administration to review the plan and its advantages in an integrated manner.

Abdelatty stressed the need to continue joint efforts to implement all stages of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza from all its parties and allow Israel to access humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, paving the way for the start of recovery, reconstruction and ending the war.

Furthermore, the call addressed the specificity of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and the mutual interests it achieves in various fields and the joint endeavor to achieve peace and common security in the Middle East.

On Tuesday, the Arab leaders endorsed an Egyptian plan for Gaza reconstruction, aimed to provide an alternative to a proposal unveiled by US President Donald Trump to “take over” Gaza and turn it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The $53 billion plan adopts a five-year timeframe for post-war Gaza, according to a document obtained by local and foreign media outlets. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said during Tuesday’s extraordinary Arab summit in Egypt that the Palestinian Authority will reassume control over the Gaza Strip under the plan.
