CAIRO – 5 March 2025: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty has expressed confidence that Arab states can complete the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip within five years. He emphasized that the plan agreed upon at the recent Cairo summit is a practical and implementable solution.
In an interview with Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath news channel, Abdel-Aty stated that the Cairo summit presented a "practical solution" for Gaza's reconstruction without displacing its residents. He highlighted that the agreed-upon plan addresses the current "tragedy and disaster" caused by the extensive destruction of residential buildings, facilities, medical centers, and public utilities.
The Foreign Minister stressed the need for a political horizon that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state to ensure the full implementation of the Arab plan. He noted that the summit's final statement, under the chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, affirmed the Arab states' adoption of Egypt's Gaza reconstruction plan, making it a unified Arab initiative.
Abdel-Aty emphasized the importance of creating a "favorable environment" for the plan's execution, which requires a sustainable and secure ceasefire.
Regarding Gaza's post-war administration, the Foreign Minister indicated a consensus on the proposed figures, emphasizing that the administration should be led by independent Palestinian personalities.
