CAIRO – 28 February 2025: The construction of the first phase of the Alexandria Metro is progressing, with the installation of cement beams for the 21.7-kilometer project, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation issued on Friday.

The Alexandria Metro line will extend from the Abu Qir Railway Station to Masr Station, with a total of 20 stations planned along the route.

This project marks a significant advancement in eco-friendly public transportation for Alexandria, contributing to both social and economic development in the Mediterranean city. It aims to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce fuel consumption by relying on clean energy sources.

Additionally, the project seeks to increase the maximum passenger capacity from 2,850 passengers per hour per direction to 60,000 passengers per hour per direction. It will also reduce travel time from 50 minutes to just 25 minutes, boost operating speed from 25 km/h to 100 km/h, and shorten the pick-up time from 10 minutes to 2.5 minutes.
