CAIRO – 27 February 2025: Egypt has welcomed the new Lebanese government gaining the confidence of the parliament on Wednesday, affirming the nation’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to Lebanon’s government and national institutions.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Egypt highlighted the significance of this pivotal development, emphasizing that it would contribute to restoring security and stability in Lebanon while preserving its sovereignty and unity.
The statement underscored the importance of this step in restoring Lebanon's rightful place in the regional landscape.
Egypt stressed that the vote of confidence for the new government marks the beginning of a new phase for Lebanon, aimed at achieving the legitimate aspirations of the Lebanese people.
Egypt emphasized the deep historical ties between the two nations, reaffirming full solidarity with Lebanon.
The new government, led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, secured the confidence of Parliament with the backing of 95 out of 128 members.
Salam emphasized that his government is committed to solidarity, dialogue, and prioritizing the national interest in its reform and state-building efforts.
Furthermore, Egypt reiterated its support for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon and called for the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area.
Egypt also expressed its backing for empowering the Lebanese national army and state institutions to enforce Resolution 1701, highlighting the necessity of its full and simultaneous implementation without selectivity.
Additionally, Egypt reiterated its condemnation of repeated Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
