CAIRO – 26 February 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk announced an increase in the wages of state employees by a minimum of 1.100 LE and up to 1,600 LE, depending on the job grade, starting next July.
In a press conference, following the weekly cabinet meeting, minister Kouchouk announced details of the new social protection program, noting that ‘Takaful and Karama’ pension will be increased by 25% starting from April permanently, in addition to another financial support of EGP 300 for each family from the Takaful and Karama program during the holy month of Ramadan.
He explained that EGP 1,500 of financial aid will be given to irregular workers within the social protection packages.
Kouchouk added, Wednesday that the social protection packages address all segments of society, explaining that there are 10 million families on ration cards, and that single-person card will be given cash support of 125 LE, and the two-person card will be given cash support of 250 LE.
Program details
The Minister explained that the social protection program is divided into two parts: the first part relates to procedures that will be implemented until the end of the current fiscal year, and the second part relates to wages and pensions, which will be implemented by the beginning of next July, coinciding with the beginning of the new fiscal year.
Regarding the first part of the program that will be implemented starting with the holy month of Ramadan until June, the Minister explained that there are about 10 million families with ration cards who are considered the lowest-income or most needy, therefor the single-person card will be given cash support of 125 LE, and the two-person card will be given cash support of 250 LE.
Regarding the ‘Takaful and Karama’ program, the Minister of Finance explained that the number of beneficiaries and those registered in the program has so far reached 5.2 million people, noting that an amount of 300 LE will be granted to each family during the month of Ramadan to meet basic needs, and that starting of next April, the financial aid will be increased by 25% permanently for those eligible for the program.
Regarding irregular workers, the minister said that a grant of 1,500 LE will be provided to each irregular worker.
“We also support another important category, which is the Egyptian farmer, and during the coming period we will work to provide sufficient funding for the farmer for agriculture,” the Minister said.
The finance minister also announced that by the beginning of July, the state is targeting a set of measures to increase workers' wages, as well as increase pensions. He explained that there are 4.5 million workers and 13 million families with pensions.
He pointed out that another ‘cost of living allowance’ is expected to reach 1,000 LE.
