CAIRO – 16 February 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has instructed the government to continue providing medical services for Gazans receiving treatment at Egyptian university hospitals.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour on Sunday, Sisi emphasized the need to secure the necessary medications for the people of Gaza.

Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect on January 19, Egypt has facilitated the entry of more than 10,000 aid trucks into Gaza, according to UN data released earlier this month.

Additionally, since early February, Egypt has received 12,000 wounded and sick Gazans, including 2,500 children, as reported by North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer on Thursday.

The agreement, brokered by Egypt, alongside Qatar and the United States, has halted over 15 months of war that devastated the enclave and killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children.

So far, the initial phase of the ceasefire has seen Hamas release 24 captives taken from Israel on October 7, 2023, while dozens more remain held. In return, Israel has released a total of 1,135 Palestinian prisoners, including many serving life sentences.

The upcoming second phase of the agreement, reportedly yet to be negotiated, aims to conclude one of the bloodiest wars of the 21st century.

Egypt, along with Qatar, is also working diligently to prevent any collapse of the ceasefire currently in place between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
