CAIRO – 14 February 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt's desire to strengthen its partnership with the World Food Programme to address the root causes of food insecurity in developing countries and meet the urgent needs of food-importing developing nations.
During his meeting on Friday in Munich with World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Cindy Hensley McCain, the minister said that Egypt has begun collaborating with the Food and Agriculture Organization to establish a global center for the storage, supply, and trade of grains on Egyptian soil to ensure food security and enhance related supply chains, pursuant to an initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during the G20 summit which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November 2024.
He praised the World Food Program for its important contribution to global humanitarian relief efforts and its activities in Egypt, which help it implement national priorities within the framework of the Egypt Vision 2030. The WFP assists Egypt in achieving the sustainable development goals, food security, and improving nutrition, as well as expanding the social protection network and supporting refugees and displaced persons, according to him.
Regarding the developments in Gaza, the minister expressed Egypt's deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the war-ravaged enclave and highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian support to the region.
Also, Abdelatty shed light on Egypt's intensive efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan, emphasizing Egypt's continued support for its crisis-hit neighboring country.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of mobilizing international efforts and donors to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people.
