We are able to produce 60% of vaccines in Africa by 2040, Egypt’s Minister of Health

CAIRO – 5 February 2025: Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that Egypt is able to produce up to 60 percent of vaccines by 2024.

“We are able to produce 60 percent of vaccines in Africa by 2040,’ Abdel Ghaffar said, explaining that all the experiences Egypt have gained over the past years will be available to the entire African continent.

The health minister revealed during the Vaccines and Medical Preparations Forum that COVID-19 pandemic revealed many challenges, and showed the fragility of the African continent in vaccine manufacturing.

He explained that there is a lot of support and experiences that can be benefited from in African countries by launching a vaccine accelerator worth $ 1.2 million.

 “I was happy when I heard that we need to think about collective purchasing and we have made progress in reducing costs,” Abdel Ghaffar said, stressing that Egypt is committed to “this important journey and participating in the experiences and supporting partnerships in the African continent.”
