CAIRO - 5 February 2025: The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, headed by Dr. Hesham State, in cooperation with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), held the second forum for manufacturing vaccines and medical preparations in Africa, which will be held over two days.
For her part, Sandra Haile Prager from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that we aim to produce 60 percent of local vaccines by 2040, but there is a large gap between manufacturers and financing institutions in Africa.
She added that the CDC will finance some manufacturers in two stages: the first stage is providing technical support in terms of feasibility studies, and there is a stage of preparation and readiness to provide raw materials and provide incentives to producers, and the last stage is connecting manufacturers and investors to finance their projects.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Badat, from the African Centers for Disease Control and responsible for marketing vaccines, said that there are many challenges that we face.
"We have started to achieve three goals, explaining that we have reached nine manufacturers who have manufacturing facilities and current financing mechanisms. We are trying to bridge the gaps between manufacturers and investors, and institutions obtain financing from the African Bank," he added.
There are stages to provide support from governments, as they invest in infrastructure, and there are operations to develop scientific research, and provide many incentives to encourage investors to invest in the field of vaccines.
