CAIRO – 4 February 2025: Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy received on Tuesday 152 artifacts that had been illegally smuggled out of Egypt and seized by the Turkish authorities.
During his visit to the Turkish capital Ankara, Fathy, met with Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism and received the smuggled artifacts that include a collection of amulets, scarabs, beads, small ushabti statues, a collection of seals and stamps, small vases, pendants and pin heads.
Fathy praised the kind gesture from the Turkish side, which reflects the extent of the Turkish side's keenness to preserve cultural heritage, protect the common human legacy and preserve the history and civilization of peoples.
In their meeting, Fathy and Ersoy discussed ways to enhance future cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism and antiquities.
Egypt’s minister stressed the strong relations between the two countries and the fruitful cooperation in all fields, especially tourism and antiquities, looking forward to the coming period witnessing the opening of new and broader horizons for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism, antiquities and culture.
During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Egypt and Turkey in the field of tourism, which is a roadmap for tourism relations between the two countries, contributing to strengthening the bonds of friendship between them and promoting further bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism, and enhancing the exchange of expertise in this vital sector.
For his part, Mohamed Nouri Ersoy welcomed Sherif Fathy and his accompanying delegation, pointing out that this visit coincides with the celebration of the centenary of Egyptian-Turkish diplomatic relations, pointing to the strong ties between the presidents of the two countries, which enhances efforts to strengthen these relations in all fields.
