Humanitarian aid at Rafah Border - file
CAIRO - 4 February 2024: Egypt continued its efforts to provide humanitarian support to the Gaza Strip, as 130 aid trucks moved from the Egyptian side through the Rafah land crossing towards the Strip, as part of the ongoing efforts to alleviate human suffering and provide basic needs for the residents of Gaza.
The convoy included 12 trucks loaded with fuel and cooking gas, which represents vital support for the Strip in light of the current crisis, as the operation of hospitals and basic facilities depends on these supplies to ensure the continuity of medical and humanitarian services, and the Gaza Strip suffers from a severe fuel crisis, which makes these supplies necessary to maintain the operation of hospitals, bakeries and power stations.
The convoy also included trucks loaded with relief aid, food and medicine, in addition to necessary medical supplies for the wounded and injured.
This move comes as part of the ongoing efforts made by Egypt to facilitate the entry of urgent aid into Gaza, as the Rafah land crossing is the only lifeline for the Strip, in light of the restrictions imposed on other crossings. The past few days have witnessed the passage of many humanitarian shipments, including food, medicine and medical supplies to support hospitals and shelters inside the Strip.
Aid deliveries are set to continue through the Rafah crossing in the coming days, with increased focus on providing urgent medical supplies and relief materials, in light of Egypt's ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
A total of 340 aid and fuel trucks crossed from Egypt into the Gaza Strip Monday, including 310 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies, and medicines, in addition to 25 fuel trucks and 5 trucks loaded with cooking gas.
A delegation from the International Red Cross also visited the Rafah crossing yesterday to follow up on the progress of the transfer of relief aid from Egypt to the Gaza Strip, as part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts to support civilians in the Strip.
The delegation inspected the movement of trucks loaded with relief materials, and was briefed on their entry into Gaza under the supervision of the Egyptian Red Crescent, which coordinates relief efforts and provides facilities to ensure the rapid arrival of aid.
The delegation members also praised the measures being taken to ensure the continued flow of aid, in light of the urgent need to support the affected population, amid increasing calls to enhance humanitarian efforts and bring in more basic supplies.
