CAIRO – 3 January 2025: Arab ambassadors to the US have conveyed a written message addressed to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on reaching a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

Ambassadors of Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, and the deputy ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar met with Ambassador Timothy Lenderking, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, on February 3, to convoy the message, from their foreign ministries and a representative of the Palestinian Authority.

The ambassadors’ action comes in implementation of the ministerial level in Cairo on February 1, attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The Ministerial resulted in a joint statement in which the attendees affirmed their support for the Palestinian people in their efforts to preserve their inalienable rights and establish their independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967.

The ambassadors of the countries that signed the Cairo Statement agreed in the US capital, Washington, to continue these efforts by holding a series of meetings with senior US administration officials.

The ambassadors also stressed their aspiration to work with the new US administration to support peace and stability in the Middle East.

In a joint statement following their meeting, the seven parties expressed ongoing full support for the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land, adhering to their legitimate rights in accordance with international law.

They reaffirmed “rejection of any violation of those inalienable rights, whether through settlement activities, expulsion and demolition of homes, annexation of land, or by displacing the owners through forced displacement or encouraging the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians from their land in any form or under any circumstances or justifications.”

The participants warned that such actions threaten stability and risk further extending the conflict in the region, undermining opportunities for peace and coexistence among its peoples.
