CAIRO – 31 January 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty began his visit to Beirut on Friday, by meeting with the Lebanese newly elected President Joseph Aoun.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf stated that Minister Abdelatty conveyed to the Lebanese President greetings of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi and his sincere congratulations on his assumption of the position of President of the country.
Minister Abdelatty delivered a message from President Sisi to Lebanese counterpart Aoun affirming Egypt's full support, and full solidarity with Lebanon, and extending an invitation to President Aoun to visit Egypt.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister indicated that Egypt highly appreciates the step of electing President Aoun, and what it represents as a new stage towards achieving security and stability in sisterly Lebanon, stressing the Egyptian position in support of the institutions of the Lebanese state.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Egypt's full support for the implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement in southern Lebanon, and the demand for the immediate, complete and undiminished withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, to enable the Lebanese army and state institutions to implement Resolution 1701.
He stressed that Egypt supports the full and simultaneous implementation of the 1701 resolution by both sides without selectivity, and demands that Israel stop violating Lebanese sovereignty.
The Egyptian Minister added that Egypt will continue to provide full support to Lebanon, explaining Cairo’s keenness to intensify economic cooperation with Lebanon in all sectors, pointing out Egyptian companies' readiness to engage and contribute effectively and efficiently to the development and reconstruction process.
For his part, Aoun asked to convey his sincere greetings to President Sisi, appreciating Egypt's continuous support for Lebanon during the recent period on the political and humanitarian levels, expressing his aspiration for more joint cooperation to raise the level of bilateral relations in all fields between the two brotherly countries.
