CAIRO - 25 January 2025: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population said that cervical cancer can be prevented by 100 percent, stressing that it is necessary to ensure early detection and adhere to periodic follow-up.
The Ministry of Health added that early detection is necessary because continuous infection with the human papillomavirus in the cervix (lower part of the uterus) if left untreated, can cause 95 percent of cervical cancer cases.
The Ministry of Health revealed a set of steps that protect against cervical cancer, including:-
1. Heading to the hospital to determine your target for examination through the Ministry of Health questionnaire.
2. Commitment to periodic examination and follow-up.
3. Getting treatment at the stage of abnormal cells.
The ministry further said that cervical cancer is the sixth most common type of cancer that affects women, adding that the cause of 99 percent of cases of cervical cancer is due to the papillomavirus or HPV.
She advised girls from the age of 9 to receive the HPV vaccination, and advised women over the age of thirty to do the examination.
