CAIRO - 23 January 2025: Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met with David Lamy, the United Kingdom’s foreign secretary, on Thursday, January 23, in Cairo.
The two officials co-chaired the second session of the Egyptian-British Partnership Council, which also included representatives from Egypt’s ministries of investment and foreign trade, planning, economic development, and international cooperation, as well as the British Ministry of Trade and Business.
Ambassador Tamim Khilaf, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the Partnership Council, which oversees the implementation of the Partnership Agreement signed between the two countries on December 5, 2020, focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring ways to further cooperation across various sectors to benefit the peoples of both nations.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United Kingdom and highlighted key areas for future collaboration.
The two ministers also discussed ongoing political developments in the Middle East, and exchanged views on the situation in Gaza, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, and the Red Sea region, as well as on topics of water security and cooperation in Africa.
The meeting also featured extensive discussions on boosting economic, trade, and investment ties between Egypt and the UK.
Minister Abdelatty underlined Egypt's interest in increasing trade volume and attracting more direct British investments, particularly in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, financial services, agriculture, logistics, transportation, and communications.
He underlined the significant investment opportunities available in Egypt and outlined the steps taken by the Egyptian government in recent years to foster a favorable business environment and support private sector growth.
