CAIRO – 23 January 2025: The Inspection Sector at the Ministry of Labor has arrested a labor inspector and two employees for demanding a bribe in exchange for not reporting violations at a factory in the city of Ameria, Alexandria Governorate.

This comes in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to address corruption head-on and ensure no cover-ups, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labor on Thursday.

Mohamed Gebran, minister of labor, stated that upon receiving a complaint from a citizen, he immediately instructed the General Administration of Labor Inspection, led by Sayed El-Sharkawy, to investigate the matter.

A team was sent to Alexandria to conduct a thorough inquiry. After confirming the facts and determining that the accused individuals had no legal basis for their actions, a decision was made to suspend them from their duties. They were subsequently transferred to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings, following the approval of the governor of Alexandria.

Minister Gebran urged citizens and factory owners across all governorates not to comply with any illegal demands from labor inspectors, and to refuse any requests for money in exchange for services.

He emphasized that there is no place for corrupt individuals within the ministry, reiterating that he had previously rewarded labor inspectors who have demonstrated integrity and dedication in their work.
