CAIRO - 6 January 2025: Palestinian figures and bodies have expressed their full approval of the Egyptian initiative aimed at forming a community support committee to manage the Gaza Strip.
This came in a petition that included a call for national unity and consensus in service of the interests of the Palestinian people.
The signatories to the petition stressed that forming the committee, which will be under the Palestinian government in Ramallah and will operate according to a presidential decree, represents a real opportunity to improve the humanitarian and administrative situation in Gaza.
They pointed out the importance of this step in organizing humanitarian work and alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza, especially in the areas of reconstruction and improving living conditions.
The petition emphasized centrality of the Gaza Strip in the Palestinian political entity, expressing their adherence to the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
The signatories called on the Palestinian Authority to interact positively with the Egyptian proposal, demanding that it move forward with forming a community support committee even if some parties backtrack on its approval.
They said this initiative is an important tool for achieving national reconciliation and restoring unity, stressing the need to show a sense of national responsibility.
For his part, Akif Al-Masry, Commissioner-General of the Tribal Affairs Authority in Gaza, announced his full support for the petition as an essential step to enhance national unity.
