CAIRO - 24 July 2017: The army has foiled a major attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai, said the spokesman for the Armed Forces in a press release.

The failed attack would have left around 50-60 of civilians and military personnel dead, said the military statement, adding that a military patrol managed to stop a booby-trapped car before targeting the site in southern Arish.

A tank of the patrol confronted the car bomb to go off 200 meters far from the checkpoint, said the spokesman, who released a footage of the foiled attack on Facebook.

The blast killed seven locals.
