CAIRO – 24 July 2017: Sir. Magdi Yacoub is visiting Ethiopia during the period from July 20 to 25, to perform a large number of cardiothoracic surgeries for Ethiopian citizens, said Egypt's Ambassador to Ethiopia Abubakar Hefny in a statement on Sunday.

The visit comes in the framework of enhancing the cooperation between Egypt and Ethiopia in various fields, especially cooperation in the field of health, he added in the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Yacoub’s visit is the fourth one since the start of cooperation between Magdy Yacoub Heart foundation and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership in 2014.

In a press conference, Sir Yacoub affirmed his foundation’s commitments to continue cooperation with the Egyptian government through dispatching medical missions to perform surgeries for Ethiopian citizens who cannot afford the surgery costs, through training Ethiopian cadres or through providing new medical equipment to the Ethiopian side, the statement continued.

The cardiologist, who is accompanied with his medical team, also hoped to perform 75 surgeries during his stay in Ethiopia.

The ambassador stressed Egypt's commitment to build the capacity of Ethiopian cadres in various fields and that these efforts will undoubtedly contribute to enhance trust between the two sides and developing relations at the humanitarian level between the peoples of Egypt and Ethiopia.
