CAIRO – 1 June 2024: Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman ElSafadi engaged in a crucial discussion with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken regarding the ongoing situation in Gaza, announcing his country’s full support for Egypt, Qatar and US efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner swap deal between Hamas and Israel.

The conversation centered on urgent efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of essential aid to Gaza, and advance negotiations for an exchange deal mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, said the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Saturday.

ElSafadi underscored the imperative of halting aggression against Gaza and addressing the resulting humanitarian crisis. He emphasized the need for all border crossings to be opened for aid entry, enabling effective distribution by UN agencies, and ensuring Israel's compliance with international law.

Blinken briefed ElSafadi on President Biden's proposal for a mediated prisoner exchange deal involving the US, Egypt, and Qatar. On his part, ElSafadi reiterated Jordan's full support for these Egyptian, Qatari and US diplomatic endeavors to reach the prisoner swap deal fast. He also stressed the importance of carefully considering proposals aimed at achieving a sustainable ceasefire and alleviating the plight of Palestinians in Gaza.

ElSafadi reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering commitment to collaborating with international partners to cease aggression, deliver vital assistance to Gaza's populace, and advance a comprehensive plan for establishing a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders. He urged immediate action from the global community to halt Israeli aggression, uphold international legal standards, and implement UN resolutions and decisions by the International Court of Justice.

Jordan stands in support of efforts to broker an exchange deal while urging the international community to unequivocally reject Israel's actions and safeguard the rights and well-being of the Palestinian people.
