CAIRO – 30 May 2024: Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an end to the Israeli war on the Gaza, announcing his country full support for establishing the Palestinian state and pledges to provide U.S.$3 million to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

In his speech at the Opening Session of the 10th China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing, Jinping said: “War should not continue indefinitely. Justice should not be absent forever. Commitment to the two-state solution should not be wavered at will.”

Jinping added that China unequivocally backs the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, with full sovereignty, delineated by the 1967 borders, and with East Jerusalem as its capital.

“China supports Palestine’s full membership in the U.N., and supports a more broad-based, authoritative and effective international peace conference,” he continued.

The Chinese President announced that his country will “provide an additional RMB500 million yuan of assistance to help ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and support post-conflict reconstruction.” China had previously RMB100 million yuan of emergency humanitarian assistance, he pointed out.

He further said that China will donate U.S.$3 million to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in support of its emergency humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

In his speech at the opening session, Egyptian President Sisi called upon all active members of the international community to fulfill their moral and legal obligations to halt the unjust Israeli conflict. “I urge the international community to take immediate and decisive action to enforce the instantaneous and unfettered delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance to the Gaza Strip to break the Israeli siege and counter any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinians from their lands,” said President Sisi.

Sisi continued that the only path conducive to achieving regional and international peace and stability is the two-state solution and the acknowledgment of the Palestinians’ legitimate right to establish their independent state.

The forum should see participation from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, President Kais Saied of Tunisia, and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates. All of those leaders’ visits to Beijing in the period between May 28 and June 1.
