CAIRO – 29 May 2024: The presidents of Egypt and China have underscored “tangible” progress in bilateral relations in all fields.

A quantum leap has been achieved since the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in 2014.

Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt, who is currently on a visit here, and China’s Xi Jinping stressed Wednesday the need to capitalize on the 10th anniversary of their partnership through an increased exchange of top-profile visits in a way that would support the interests of both peoples.

A joint statement was issued, Wednesday to shed light on the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing in the wake of Sisi’s visit to China.

The two leaders are satisfied with the fruitful outcome of this partnership, which has contributed to boosting development and prosperity in both countries, read the statement.

China has taken part in many mega economic projects in Egypt, especially in the domains of infrastructure, transport, railways, ship building, construction and space sciences, it said.

The two leaders stressed the importance of integrating Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the statement added.

Egypt greatly appreciated Xi’s Global Development Initiative, seeing in it a tool to expedite the implementation of the sustainable development goals in line with the UN’s 2030 agenda, according to the statement.

Cairo also welcomed another initiative proposed by China, the Global Security Initiative, and affirmed willingness to work with Beijing on ways to maintain and promote world peace and security, the statement said.

It also touched upon China’s Global Civilization Initiative, noting that Egypt, likewise, cherishes the principles based on respect among the different cultures and civilizations. The ancient civilizations of both Egypt and China had greatly contributed to human history, the statement said.

China voiced support for Egypt’s “Decent Life” initiative, which aims to improve the infrastructure and living conditions of citizens in the Egyptian countryside, the statement read. China supports all Egyptian efforts to achieve development, it noted.

Sisi is expected to take part on Thursday in the opening session of the 10th ministerial meeting of the Chinese-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing with the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and a number of Arab leaders to discuss aspects of Arab-Chinese relations and ways to enhance them.

President Sisi is also scheduled to meet - during his current visit to Beijing - with the heads of a number of major Chinese companies operating in various fields for talks on attracting more investments to Egypt in light of the state’s tendency to localize industry and technology transfer through cooperation with the private sector and foreign direct investment.

President Sisi and his Chinese counterpart held talks at the People's Palace in the Chinese capital, Beijing, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and open broader horizons for cooperation in various fields.

Talks coincides with the tenth anniversary of upgrading bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two leaders tackled various regional and international issues of common concern, especially the war on Gaza and ways to restore stability in the region in a way that achieves the aspirations of its peoples towards peace, security and development.

They also witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of cooperation agreements between the two countries, including the joint development plan for the “Belt and Road” initiative, enhancing cooperation in the field of technological innovation and communications technology, and other spheres of cooperation
