CAIRO - 27 May 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday with a delegation of US Congress members from both the Democratic and Republican parties, led by Senator Jerry Moran, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The meeting was also attended by Major General Abbas Kamel, Chief of General Intelligence.

 

The official spokesperson for the Presidency noted that the US delegation emphasized the special importance their country places on its strategic partnership with Egypt. They acknowledged Egypt's significant role as a pillar of regional stability and expressed appreciation for Egypt's efforts to establish peace and security in the region.

 

The delegation highlighted Egypt's crucial role in promoting efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, exchange detainees, hostages, and prisoners, as well as the enormous efforts Egypt has made, and continues to undertake, to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. They expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for Egypt's leadership and efforts in this regard.

 

During the meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on the overall regional situation. President El-Sisi stressed the need to intensify efforts to contain the situation and end the war, which would put an end to the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe experienced by the people of Gaza and prevent the conflict from expanding and spreading.

 

He highlighted the dangers resulting from Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah and their humanitarian and security consequences.

 

President El-Sisi underscored the necessity of serious international engagement in implementing the two-state solution according to international legitimacy resolutions. He affirmed that this is the path to achieving justice, peace, and security for all the peoples of the region.
