CAIRO – 26 May 2024: Egypt is experiencing sizzling temperatures across most areas on Sunday and Monday. However, there is some relief in sight as the heatwave is expected to subside on Tuesday.

In Cairo, temperatures reached a scorching 36 degrees today and are projected to rise even further to 40 degrees tomorrow, as reported by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).

The popular Red Sea resort city of Hurghada recorded highs of 37 degrees. Alexandria, known for its pleasant weather throughout the year, experienced temperatures of 35 degrees during the day.

Moving south, Upper Egypt is facing intense heat, with Aswan recording a staggering 40 degrees today.

The EMA predicts a decrease in temperatures by 3-5 degrees on Tuesday, particularly in northern Egypt, including Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt.

However, the southern cities of Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt will continue to endure scorching heat for a while longer. The EMA forecasts highs of 45 degrees in southern Upper Egypt on Tuesday.

Cairo, the Nile Delta, Suez Canal cities, Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt are all expected to experience dusty winds on Monday.

If you're allergic to dust, be sure to seal off any potential entrances to your home and keep those pesky particles at bay.

Also, consider donning a light cloth or even a facemask to cover your nose and mouth, especially if you have to venture outside.

Here are the temperature expectations for Sunday, according to the EMA:

  • Greater Cairo & Lower Egypt – Highs: 36, Lows: 23
  • Northern coast – Highs: 36, Lows: 22
  • South Sinai – Highs: 38, Lows: 27
  • Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 37, Lows: 24
  • Southern Upper Egypt – Highs: 40, Lows: 27
