CAIRO – 23 April 2024: Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs Michael Martin stated that his country was working with Spain and Slovenia among other European countries to persuade UN members to vote for the recognition of a Palestinian state.

Minister Martin had held a visit to Egypt’s Arish and Rafah to observe the delivery of aid to Gaza Strip.

In a joint conference, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry hailed Ireland for its brave and noble stance on Gaza crisis for its alignment with the principle of justice.

In the same context, the minister warned of any Israeli land operations in Palestinian Rafah housing large numbers of displaced civilians as the repercussions on humanitarian conditions would be catastrophic

On his side, the Irish foreign minister described the Israeli shelling of civilians in Gaza as “barbaric.”
