Cairo Univ. among top 10% of world's universities: SCImago classification 2024

CAIRO - 16 March 2024: Dr. Mohamed Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, announced that Cairo University leads Egyptian universities and research institutions in the SCImago World Classification for the year 2024. 
 
He added that Cairo University is ranked among the golden square (Q1) of the best 10 percent of universities and research institutions in the world, out of more than 9,000 international institutions.
 
Dr. Elkhosht stressed that Cairo University’s success in advancing towards a prestigious position among the world’s universities is a great achievement that it was able to achieve as a result of applying sound scientific foundations and moving towards internationalism from 2017 until now, indicating that Cairo University has proven its success in all international classifications with their various standards.
 
The President of Cairo University expressed his happiness at what the university has achieved at the level of global development, whether at the educational or research level, and its openness to prestigious international universities to reduce the knowledge gap in terms of the development of curricula and advanced applied scientific research, which is classified as one of the highest cited papers globally, which contributed to Transferring the classification of Cairo University from the first and second generation to the fourth generation and entering the fifth generation in a record period of time to keep pace with global development.
 
Dr. Elkhosht stressed that despite the financial capabilities compared to some American, European, and even Gulf and Asian universities, the Cairo University administration was able to make optimal use of all its human and material capabilities, which placed Cairo University in an international position ahead of many prestigious universities with great financial capabilities in all international classifications.
 
Dr. Elkhosht pointed out that Cairo University has succeeded in stimulating scientific publishing in first-ranked scientific journals and strengthening international partnerships with many universities with distinguished specializations, in addition to increasing the budgets allocated for scientific research, supporting the university’s scientific journals in partnership with international publishing institutions, and a non-profit boom.  
 
The President of Cairo University explained that the SCImago classification for the year 2024 placed Cairo University first in Egypt, indicating that the university’s ranking this year improved from last year, where it was 1125th globally, while it ranked 870th this year, with an improvement rate of 23% within one year, which reflects the magnitude of the improvement.  
 
Dr. Elkhosht explained that the SCImago World Classification ranks universities and research and academic institutions, and is considered one of the most important international classifications. This classification is based on three main criteria: research performance (50%), innovation outputs (30%), and societal impact (20%). Under these three criteria, there are 20 sub-indicators for evaluating performance, and the classifier announced the ranking for many entities (universities, government institutions, research institutions, health institutions, companies, non-profit institutions), until the total number of institutions in this year’s classification became (9054) institutions. International.
 
It is worth noting that the ranking placed Cairo University in the lead at 870 globally, and Ain Shams University came in second place at 2004 globally, Alexandria University (2155), Mansoura University (2299), Zagazig University (2712), and Al-Azhar University (3442). Misr International University (3728), Future University (3838), Minya University (3861), and Tanta University (3884).
