CAIRO – March 15 2024: The indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas witnessed a new breakthrough after the Palestinian movement Hamas presented to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators a proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, Al Qahera news reported.

The proposal's first phase for a ceasefire involves the release of Israeli detainees including women, children, the elderly, and the sick. In exchange, a varying number of Palestinian prisoners, ranging from 700 to 1,000, would be released, as reported by Reuters.

The proposal suggested that Israel would release 100 Palestinian prisoners currently serving life sentences in Israeli prisons in exchange for the release of "female recruits."

According to the proposal, Hamas indicated its willingness to establish a permanent ceasefire once the initial exchange of detainees for prisoners has taken place.

The movement outlined in the proposal that the exact date for the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza would be determined following the completion of the initial phase. Additionally, it stated that the release of all detainees on both sides would occur during the second phase of the plan.
