CAIRO – 29 February 2024: In their meeting, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan discussed the latest developments in Sudan, and efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis, besides the ongoing Israeli geocidal war against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

 

President El-Sisi received Al-Burhan at Cairo International Airport on Thursday. The official reception ceremony was held at the Ittihadiya Palace, the honor guard was reviewed, and the national anthem was played, said Egyptian Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy in a statement.

 

President El-Sisi highlighted the historical relations between Egypt and Sudan, stressing Egypt’s keenness to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in a way that contributes to achieving the interests of the two peoples.

 

The meeting also witnessed a review of the developments in Sudan’s situation, and efforts aimed at restoring stability, and preserving the sovereignty, unity, and cohesion of the Sudanese state and its institutions, meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

 

El-Sisi also stressed Egypt’s keenness on continuing to provide Sudan with the full support to achieve political, security, and economic stability, through unifying the Sudanese ranks and settling the existing conflict. This comes in light of the close connection between the national security of the two countries. 

 

The president also affirmed that Egypt will continue to play its role in alleviating the humanitarian effects of the conflict on the Sudanese people.

 

For his part, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council affirmed his country’s appreciation for the Egyptian support in amid the current circumstances that Sudan is going through.

 

Al-Burhan added that this support is a reflection of the extended historical ties that bring together the two countries, and that were also shown in the role Egypt played in receiving the Sudanese citizens to alleviate the effects of the crisis on them.

 

The meeting also tackled the latest developments in regional issues of common interest, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, where the necessity of a ceasefire and an immediate delivery of humanitarian aid was affirmed. 

 

It was also agreed to continue intensive consultation and mutual coordination in this context during the coming period for the benefit of the public.
