CAIRO – 28 January 2024: The 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair has set a new attendance record, with over a million visitors since its launch three days ago, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Culture.

On the third day alone, the fair welcomed 404,931 visitors, bringing the total number of attendees in the past three days to 1,009,983, the ministry reported.

The significant turnout reflects the exceptional nature of this year's edition, the ministry added.

The fair, held under the theme "Creating Knowledge, Preserving the Word," commenced on January 25 and will run until February 6 at the International Exhibition Center in New Cairo.

Spanning an area of 80,000 square meters, this edition of the fair features more than 550 events and showcases the works of 5,250 exhibitors.

Norway has been designated as this year's distinguished guest country at the fair.

Renowned Egyptian Egyptologist Selim Hassan has been honored as the person of the year, while esteemed Egyptian writer Yacoub El Sharony, a pioneer in children's literature across the Arab world, has been recognized as the persona of the year at the parallel children's exhibition.

With the participation of 1,200 Arab and foreign publishers and official organizations from 70 countries worldwide, the Cairo Book Fair remains the largest and oldest book fair in the MENA region, first launched in 1969.
