CAIRO – 24 January 2024:  President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that the Egypt is intensifying its efforts to achieve ceasefire in Gaza Strip, release hostages, and begin the reconstruction.

He added during meeting with number of media figures on the sidelines of the celebration of the 72nd Police Day, that Egypt always seeks to achieve stability and ensure that conflict does not expand in the region.

"We are naturally keen to ‘extinguish fires and not igniting them’. We always strive not to expand the war, and the results of the four months of war have exhausted everyone and been harsh on everyone, and we are sending messages to everyone not to let things get out of control any further.” Sisi said.

Sisi added: “We are making our efforts in Libya and Sudan to calm the situation, and I said with Somalia that we are in favor of any diplomatic action and agreement between Ethiopia and the neighboring countries, namely Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Kenya.”

President Sisi pointed out that the repercussions of the current movement in the region do not only affect Egypt, but also the entire world.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that the toughness and endurance of Egyptians has changed from what it was 20-30 years ago.

Sisi wondered if the government have moved according to different priorities and the results that could’ve been reached accordingly.

He explained: “Other countries that suffered from the electricity problem for 30 or 40 years, because they took other paths and had different priorities.”

Sisi highlighted the necessity of preserving what has been accomplished over the past years, saying what has been accomplished cannot be neglected.

“Our resources are limited and insufficient”, Sisi said.

The solution is to increase the rates of export and industry’s contribution in order to overcome the problem of the high dollar exchange rate, the president pointed out.

Sisi added that the aim was to increase the export rate to 100 billion dollars, but this did not happen due to pressure on the import bill.

The population increase hit 26 million people from 2011 till today, Sisi said, adding that such an increase has requirements that the state must provide.

Sisi said that “There is an attempt to influence trade routes and it has repercussions on prices, and supply chains are faltering.”

He added: “We were negatively affected by Covid-19, and we were able to absorb it. The repercussions continued again due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Supply chains were greatly affected and product prices rose. We were affected by the crisis that exists today in Gaza and its repercussions. We hope that the issue ends and does not reach further repercussions.”

Commenting on the problem of providing foreign exchange currencies, Sisi said: “If the dollar problem is resolved, then everything else will be easy.”

“This crisis has only one positive thing; that the solution was imposed on us. We must solve the dollar issue once and for all.” Sisi said
