Blinken looks forward to working closely with Egypt during President Sisi's new term

CAIRO - 19 December 2023:  US Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed his country's keenness on working closely with Egypt during the new term of re-elected President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

This came during a phone call held with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday.

During the phone conversation, Blinken affirmed his country's keenness on working closely with Egypt during the new term in office of President Sisi, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Blinken further affirmed keenness on supporting the strategic relations between the two countries and promoting coordination mechanisms and consultation on growing regional and international challenges, added the spokesman.

The two top diplomats also tackled the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, said the spokesman, adding that they further affirmed rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinians.

They further discussed the security challenges in the southern Red Sea region and the Bab al Mandab Strait and their impact on the navigation movement in the Red Sea.

Shoukry, meanwhile, underlined the need of exerting strenuous efforts in order to ensure the unobstructed entry of humanitarian aid into the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.

At the end of the phone conversation, the two top diplomats underlined the importance of continuing coordination and communication within the upcoming period
