CAIRO – 13 December 2023: The National Elections Authority (NEA) has started to receive records and ballot papers from the general electoral committees after the three-day presidential election that ended on Tuesday.

In statements to the state’s news agency MENA on Wednesday, an NEA official said that the general electoral committees have finalized the counting and collecting of votes received from the sub-electoral committees.

The NEA will announce the results of the Presidential Elections next Monday, as per the previously-announced timetable for the electoral process.

Millions of Egyptians cast their ballots over the past three days in thousands of polling stations nationwide to choose their leaders for the next six years.

Four candidates are competing in the elections; incumbent President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party Farid Zahran, President of Al Wafd Party Abdel-Sanad Yamama, and President of the Republican People's Party Hazem Omar.

Ballot sorting at many polling stations has revealed that Sisi is leading the polls, while candidates Zahran and Omar are competing over the second place.

According to the NEA on Monday, the second day of elections, almost half of the electorate voted in the elections. The number of eligible voters across Egypt totaled 67 million.

Diaa Rashwan, Head of the State Information Service (SIS), said on Wednesday that extensive media coverage of the 2024 Presidential Elections inside the country showed that the electoral process was conduced in an atmosphere of freedom and integrity.

In press remarks, Rashwan added that media coverage did not spot any electoral violation or attempt to influence voters by state authorities or supporters of the four candidates.

As many as 538 correspondents belonging to 110 media platforms in 33 countries observed the elections over the past three days, Rashwan said, noting that the media professionals visited hundreds of polling stations.

He added that the correspondents did not spot any notable electoral violation, which constitutes a global testament of the integrity of the elections.

The 2024 presidential election is the fifth multi-party presidential elections that the country has witnessed in its modern history.

The 2024 elections gain their importance from being a major step in the country’s path towards democratic transformation, party pluralism and political competitiveness.

The election is held a year and a half since the launch of the National Dialogue, which included all components Egyptian political, union and civil society.

The elections for citizens inside the country is taking place a few days after the three-day voting process for Egyptians abroad was concluded early in December.

The final result will be announced on December 18 if no run-off is required. Voting inside the country will take place from 10-12 December.
