Shoukry reiterates Egypt's rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians

CAIRO – 6 December 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reiterated Egypt’s unwavering stance as regards rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian citizens inside or outside their territories, in addition to emphasizing the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, providing protection for Palestinian civilians, and ensuring regular access to humanitarian aid.

Shoukry made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with US Republican Representative Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee.

The meeting was held as part of the foreign minister’s current visit to the United States.

Shoukry expressed Egypt's aspiration to enhance coordination and consultation with the US in light of strategic relations and partnership between them, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

He reviewed the major developments Egypt has witnessed over the past years at the economic and social levels, in addition to the determinants of Egypt’s foreign policy which are based on working to support and enhance regional peace, security and good neighborliness.

The two sides discussed regional and international issues and crises, most notably the conditions in Gaza, Libya and Sudan, in addition to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue.

Meanwhile, the US lawmaker highlighted the elements of convergence between the Egyptian and US positions on regional issues, praising Cairo’s efforts to enhance regional security and stability.

He also affirmed his full support for strengthening aspects of Egypt-US relations.
