Haven't voted yet in Egypt's 2024 Presidential Elections abroad? It's not too late!

CAIRO – 3 December 2023: It is the last day of voting in the 2024 Presidential Elections for Egyptians living abroad. You have until Sunday 9 PM, local time in your country, to go to your embassy or consulate and make your voice heard.

Egyptians all over the world have cast their ballots in 121 countries to choose their leader for the next 6 years. The voting has already wrapped up in countries like New Zealand and Australia.

If you have not yet voted in the elections, check the National Election Authority’s website to find out where to cast your vote in your country of residence.

The marathon is held between four contenders, including incumbent President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party Farid Zahran, President of Al Wafd Party Abdel-Sanad Yamama, and President of the Republican People's Party Hazem Omar.

The final result will be announced on December 18 if no run-off is required. Voting inside the country will take place from 10-12 December.

Vote counting commenced

The NEA said on Sunday that the counting of votes from Egyptians living abroad in the 2024 Presidential Elections has commenced in Wellington, New Zealand, after three days of overseas balloting.

Around 103 voting stations at Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide are still receiving expats wishing to participate in the presidential election.

Thirty-three balloting stations will open to voters in the coming hours due to global time differences.

The vote counting is carried out by the Egyptian diplomatic missions under the supervision of the NEA. Results of the votes will then be sent to the NEA headquarters in Cairo.

Steps to follow while voting

Based on the law, Egyptian voters abroad require a valid Egyptian passport or a valid or invalid national ID card to be able to cast their ballot.

Voters must be registered in voter databases. Every Egyptian who has reached the age of 18 has the right to participate in the presidential elections. To make sure if your name is included in the databases, click on this link: https://www.elections.eg/inquiry.

The voter will then take his ballot card to the place designated for voting in the embassy or consulate, where he can cast his vote with ease.

Citizens who are at least 18 years old, fully enjoy their political and civil rights, and are listed in the voter database are eligible to vote in the elections inside Egypt and abroad.

Meanwhile, citizens who were convicted of tax evasion or had their assets confiscated and citizens under guardianship or suffering from mental or psychological disorders cannot cast their ballot.

People who cannot vote in the elections also include citizens detained on charges of bribing witnesses or committing a crime to evade military service and those detained on charges of theft, fraud, breach of trust, bribery, forgery, or giving false testimony.

Who are the current presidential candidates?

Four presidential candidates are competing in this election, including incumbent President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who has been in post for two terms since 2014.

Other candidates are Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party; Abdel Sanad Yamama, Head of Al-Wafd Party, and Hazem Omar, head of the Republican People’s Party.

The four candidates have released their vision to improve people’s lives in the coming six-year presidential term.
