Cairo- 20 July 2017: The Giza Security Directorate announced a state of emergency and raised its security procedures in anticipation of any probable terrorist attacks from the Hasm terrorist group, security sources told Egypt Today Thursday.

“We got information of a plot by Hasm to enact revengeafter a number of their members and leaders were recently killed by security forces,” the sourcesadded.

Theincreased security measures includesstrict orders to the police officers and preparation against ambushes around the governorate, as more proactive strikes were announced against the terrorists, according to the sources.

On July 15, two members of the Hasmgroup were killed in a shootout with security forces in Giza and Ismailia governorates.

The two were responsible for providing improvised explosive devices to the terrorist group, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.

The ministry’s statement added that the security forces also killed four militants during a shootout in Ismailia, earlier on July 15.

The statement added that security forces received information from the National Security Service that terrorists from the Hasm militant group in Giza governorate were planning to carry out a terrorist attack.

The security forces located the terrorists and killed them following an armed confrontation.

The Hasm militant group is an armed group reportedly associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and responsible for a number of terrorist attacks in Egypt. The attacks carried out by Hasm target security forces, including an attack in December 2016 on two security checkpoints on Al-Haram street, which killed six security personnel and injured three others.
