Youth Loves Egypt Foundation grants prestigious awards to climate initiatives ahead of COP28 to empower civil society

CAIRO – 29 November 2023: On the way to the 28th UN Climate Change Conference in the UAE (COP28), Youth Loves Egypt (YLE) Foundation has financially supported ten climate-related initiatives as part of its efforts to empower civil society.

YLE granted a 500 Euro award to each of these initiatives, launched by partner organizations under the foundation’s “Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations” in the field of climate change.

The program is organized in partnership with the Berlin-based CRISP organization, the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and the German Ministry for the Environment from 2023-2025 to enhance cooperation between the various civil society institutions in the field of climate.

The ten initiatives, fostered through a series of training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs spanning 11 months, won the awards after a competition among 20 initiatives under the program.

The initiatives aim to make a significant impact in addressing environmental challenges.

Furthermore, as a testament to the program's success, five exemplary policy papers were recognized for their quality and innovation.

Two of these papers are set to be presented at COP28, showcasing the program's tangible impact on shaping policy discussions and contributing valuable insights to the global climate agenda.

The YLE Foundation remains dedicated to empowering civil society organizations and individuals, fostering a community of change-makers committed to addressing environmental challenges on the road to COP28.

The COP28 will take place from 30 November to 12 December at the Expo City, Dubai, attended by 167 world leaders to tackle climate change.

The world is pinning hopes on the COP28 to help limit global temperature rise to 1.5C, a target that is crucial in order to avoid disastrous impacts of climate change.
