CAIRO - 28 November 2023: The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, directed the formation of a delegation from the League to follow up on the presidential elections, the first round of which is scheduled to be held during the period from 10 to 12 December 2023 inside Egypt.

The delegation will be headed by Ambassador Khalil Ibrahim Al-Thawadi - Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Arab Affairs and National Security Sector.

The formation of the mission comes in response to the invitation that Aboul Gheit received from Counselor Hazem Badawi, Chairman of the National Elections Authority, regarding the participation of the League of Arab States in following up on the Egyptian presidential elections, and in light of the interest that the League attaches to keeping up with the electoral elections taking place in its member states.

This also comes within the league's keenness to support and enhance the process of democracy, consolidating good governance, and ensuring the smooth conduct of electoral processes.

The mission's objectives are to follow up on various aspects of the electoral process, including the nomination period, the electoral campaign period for candidates, the voting process, and the votes count counting, in order to ensure their compliance with the laws and regulations followed in the country as well as international standards.

The Arab League Operations Room will coordinate and communicate with observers over the course of the three days of voting, and during this period the mission will meet with various parties concerned with preparing and organizing these elections.

The mission will issue its preliminary statement after completing the follow-up process, and will issue its final report, which will be submitted to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, which will include its detailed observations on the mission and recommendations for that, to be sent later to the relevant authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
