CAIRO 20 July 2017: The Cabinet approved on Thursday amendments regulating the Administrative Control Authority (ACA).

The approval was announced by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail during a weekly meeting. The law will go intoeffect following Cabinet approval and ratification by the presidency.

The amendments to the ACA law include introducing it as at state body, but still has technical, financial and administrative independence.

The amendments also stipulate that the head of the Authority shall be appointed by the President, after the approval of the Parliament, for a term of four years that can be renewed.

The draft law further introducesnew articles related to the creation of several bodies to combat and prevent corruption.

In addition, new powers are introduced to detect and control crimes aimed at obtaining profit or benefit by exploiting authority or position, as well as crimes according to regulations of foreign exchange operations.

The law also provides the creation of a specialized center calledthe National Academy for Combating Corruptionforthe preparation and training of staff for the Administrative Control Authorityin cooperation with specialized anti-corruption bodies in other countries.

Moreover, training courses, conferences andseminarswill be organizedon the values of integrity and transparency, in coordination with the Supreme Council of Universities, to grant relevant degrees.
