CAIRO - 25 October 2023: China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, praised the Egyptian efforts made to open a humanitarian corridor to the Gaza Strip, stressing his country's appreciation for this role.

In a session before the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, Chang called for a comprehensive ceasefire between the Palestinian factions and Israel, calling on the Council to "use clear and unambiguous language to demand an immediate ceasefire."

He said that despite the efforts made to open a humanitarian corridor, the humanitarian supplies currently allowed to Gaza are still insufficient, and the Rafah land crossing alone cannot fundamentally meet the humanitarian needs in Gaza. He called on the Security Council “to demand the occupying authority to immediately end the complete blockade on Gaza, restore water, electricity and fuel supplies, and stop collective punishment of the people in Gaza.”

Chang urged Israel to create favorable conditions for the normal operation of the Rafah land port, stop air strikes on the surrounding areas, and ensure that aid is not hindered. He pointed out that his country provided emergency humanitarian aid through the Palestinian National Authority and United Nations agencies, respectively, and that it would continue to provide in-kind aid based on The needs of the people of Gaza.

He concluded by saying, "We maintain close contacts with the parties concerned and play a responsible and constructive role in achieving a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and avoiding a greater humanitarian catastrophe. China has no self-interest regarding the Palestine issue, and any initiative that contributes to peace will enjoy China's strong support, and that China will make every effort to pursue any effort that facilitates Palestinian-Israeli reconciliation.”
